Quick post

Got some gardening done today. I finished the anti-deer cage, with help from my cousin. The stuff I planted from seed is doing great (I thinned them out some today), but the stuff I transplanted isn't so good. The eggplant is dead. I got the extra cayenne pepper into a pot, finally. It's bigger than the one in the garden now. (It was the other way around when I got them.)

Mitzi's been sick the last couple of nights. It's strange; she seems happier most of the time. We tried giving her two small meals instead of one big one. Hopefully that'll help.

I'm spending way to much time on Sims 3. Things look so much nicer with the new customization tools. Mod the Sims has found a way to load fan made patterns into the game. So many possibilities!

30 Yahrens ago tonight (Sept 17)

This is the 30th anniversary of the premiere of Battlestar Galactica. (Yep, still hooked.) I've finished watching the original series and it really was a lot better than I expected. It's not perfect, it was intended to be a series of television movies, but ABC insisted on making it a regular series and the production got rushed. At least one script had to be written in 24 hours! In spite of the problems, I just can't help loving these characters. The show's much more family oriented than the new version, and, quite frankly, much less depressing. There's such a feeling of hope throughout the entire series. That may not be realistic, but it's fun. It's a terrible shame that it was cancelled after just one season even though it was a top 20 show and shows with lower ratings were getting renewed.

This show deserves to be watched (as if a show can deserve anything. :) ) Americans can watch it online at NBC Although for some reason the episodes are in reverse order with the last ones listed first. I'm sure there are other places to find it online you can find the first episode or the feature film that was made out of the first episode.

Anyway, I felt I should do something to mark the show's anniversary.

Oh, and I still prefer Starbuck with Athena not Cassiopeia.

Back, I think

I feel like I haven't posted in ages. Things got kind of crazy for awhile; I didn't seem to have more that a few minutes free time a day. I can get online at school every now and then, but I don't want to log into LJ from there, because the college network is monitored. Anything I can see, they can see. So that's why I haven't been commenting. I'm hoping I have things better organized now.

We're actually running the printing presses at school. It's incredibly messy. It' makes me wonder how books can be so crisp and clean. I don't think I'll ever want to run presses for a living. Maybe when I get more comfortable around them, but I doubt it. It's designs and layouts that really interest me.

I read a great book called the The Truth About Dogs by Stephen Budiansky. It's really funny, but it has a lot of hard science in it, too. His theory on how dogs became domesticated is the first one that really makes sense to me. I think he underestimates dog's comprehension level a bit, but I have to agree that a lot of people over estimate it. He also explains in good hard logic why the current concepts of purebreds has to go. Anyway, if you've got a dog or want to get one, this is a really interesting book.

I went to the library today to try and finds Outlander (that's what they call Cross Stitch around her, as near as I can tell), but it was out. I asked them to reserve it for me, so I should get it soon. It was actually due back on the 16th, so it probably wont be long. I ended up getting Minion by L. A. Banks. It's a vampire slayer book. A lot of people must like it because the copy I got is a special edition with extra scenes. I'm a bit wary about it, though. So many vampire book series seem to degenerate into massive love polygons. (Lost has completely ruined me for love triangles.) It sounds like this is only a trilogy, so maybe it won't go that route.

DeviantART.com

Does anyone know anything about deviantART.com? I've been thinking about putting up an art site, and I'm wondering if that's a good choice for it. I went to the site but I couldn't find a simple description of the services they offer.

I got my timetable for first semester, and I've got a 4pm to 9pm class on Wednesdays followed by an 8am class on Thursday. I can't believe I'm saying this, but thank God for the hiatus! Hopefully next semesters schedule will be more favourable to Lost. :) I got official confirmation that I've been granted final acceptance today, too. I knew I did everything I was supposed to, but it's nice to hear the red tape's been dealt with.

Lost Finale

I don't know why I'm writing this, because I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. Anyway...

I think it's going to take most of the summer to figure out whether I like the ending or not.

Lost speculation

Although I've been trying to avoid the spoiler threads, I've been hearing some disconcerting rumours. One of them, about Kate, has got me thinking it might be based on fact, though. Like I said it's a rumour, I've got know reason to believe it's a solid spoiler, but I'll put it behind a cut, anyway.

Survivor: Herbal Edition

I finally thinned my herbs down to three for a pot. Hopefully I left the strongest ones. It's extremely silly, I know, but I kind of feel sorry for the ones that had to go. That didn't stop me from crushing some of the leaves up a bit. Even with only two proto-leaves the thyme already smells really nice. Only two of the sage plants have come up yet, and they're in the same pot, so one'll have to go. They've grown so fast; they're already as tall as the basil and it came up first. Maybe I'll transplant one of them into one of the pots where nothing's coming up. The first true leaves are starting to form so it won't be long till all of them have to be thinned down to one a pot. For some reason that makes me feel nicely ruthless. LOL

Just Rambling

I've been thinking about Kate's attitude towards Jack lately, and I'm trying to work through my thoughts on the matter. Kate seems to be following the same path her mother did, feeling inferior to domineering men. I wonder if it was just Wayne who was abusive towards Diane. It's not unusual for a woman to get involved with the same type of man again and again. Sam probably never beat beat Diane or Kate would have known, but he could be more subtle and emotionally abusive. Given Kate's reaction towards Jack, I think she's used to being ordered around. Sam could be just as much of a control freak. Part of me wants them to just forget puppy dog Kate and show us kick ass Kate, but I'd also like to see them really deal with the issue of Kate's submissiveness in regards to Jack. I want to see her acknowledge that Jack's not treating her right and that it's much better to be involved with someone that actually admirers her.

New Journal

I've got no idea what I'm going to use this site for.  I've never been much for diaries.  I do however get obsessed with things, so I'll probably use this as an outlet so I don't drive my friends mad.  It's late, though, so that's enough for tonight.
